1.     Personal data

Personal data is information that can be used to learn about you personally or other situations concerning you, such as name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Information that does not refer to you specifically is not personal data.

2.     Collecting, processing and use of personal data

We use your personal data exclusively to provide you – via the website – with a wide range of personalised services (for VDMA member companies only) or to comply with your contact requests, as well as for preparing anonymised analytics for statistical surveys.

It is also possible to use our website without needing to disclose your identity. However, whenever you log in for one of our personalised services (e.g. subscribing to a newsletter,, etc.), we ask you for the information needed to provide it, such as your name, email address and phone number, as well as a company and company address. You are free to decide whether or not you would like to provide these data. However, without this information we may not be able to provide the desired service or process your request.

3.     Statistical analysis

No direct personal analysis takes place. We reserve the right to perform statistical analysis of anonymised data records. This analysis is saved to improve the website and for statistical purposes. In such cases, general information is recorded, e.g. when and which one of our sites was launched, or which site was visited most often. These data do not allow for any conclusions to be made about the user.

4.     Sharing personal data to third parties

We do not generally share your personal data with third parties. However, in individual cases we may be obligated to share your personal data with law enforcement authorities. For example, this may be the case if there is suspicion of criminal activity or abuse of our website.

5.     Newsletter (exclusively for member companies)

As a member company of VDMA e.V., you can log in to receive electronic newsletters. We use our newsletters to inform you (free of charge) about activities and events, as well as country, industry and other topics. Using the “my.VDMA” login data, you can log into the newsletter distribution list. When we use a service provider for this, we conclude all legal data protection agreements required in order to protect your data adequately. Apart from this, we do not share any data with third parties. If you no longer want to receive a newsletter, you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. To do so, simply click the “Unsubscribe” link found in each of our newsletters. After doing so, you will no longer receive any newsletters from us.

6.     Cookies

We use so-called “session cookies” and “permanent cookies” on our website. Cookies refer to small text files generated by a web server and are saved on your computer by the web browser being used. They are used to aid in providing you (as a visitor to our website) with permanent, recurring settings, such as the “Save login data function”. Session cookies are deleted at the end of the browser session. The “permanent cookies” that we set are deleted after no more than 30 days.

The majority of browsers are pre-configured to accept cookies automatically. If you do not wish for our cookies to be saved on your computer, please deactivate the function for saving cookies for our website in your browser, or configure your browser so that cookies are not stored on your computer in general.

7.     Log files

·         Date, time of use

·         Name of the requested website or file

·         Status (e.g. “successful”, error message)

·         Product and version information of the browser and operating system used (called the “User-Agent”),

Whenever you log into the “my.VDMA” member area, your login information will also be retained in the log file.

We evaluate these data records only for statistical purposes, to improve the website, for system security purposes (e.g. preventing abuse) and for fault diagnosis. Deletion of log files with personal data occurs after no more than 7 days.

8.     Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service offered by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies”; these are text files that are saved on your computer and that allow for an analysis of your usage of the website. As a rule, the information that the cookie generates about your usage of this website is transferred to a Google server in the USA. Please note that IP anonymization has been activated on this website, i.e. Google shortens your IP address beforehand within the member states of the European Union or in other states that are party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. At the request of the operator of this website, Google uses this information to evaluate your usage of the website to compile reports about the website activities and other services associated with website and Internet usage for the website operator. Google does not combine the IP address transmitted from your browser by Google Analytics with other data.

You can prevent cookies from being saved by appropriately adjusting your browser software; however, we would like to inform you that in this case you may not be able to use all functions of this website to their full extent (see above). Furthermore, you can prevent the recording of data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) and transmission to Google as well as the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in found at the following link  ( .

As an alternative to the browser plug-in and on mobile terminals, you can prevent Google Analytics from collecting this information by clicking the link below. An “opt-out” cookie will be set, which will block any future recording of your data when visiting this website. You should not delete the “opt-out” cookie for as long as you would like to maintain your objection. If you subsequently delete this cookie, you will need to perform the deactivation again.

9.     Google Maps

On some subpages, our website uses Google Maps to display interactive maps and to create travel directions. Google Maps is a map service offered by Google Inc. (Google). By using Google Maps, information about the use of this website – including your IP address and the (start) address entered in the route planner – may be transferred to Google in the USA.

Whenever you launch a site containing Google Maps, your browser establishes a direct connection with Google’s servers. Google transmits the map content directly to your browser, which integrates it into the website. Therefore, we have no influence over the extent of the data collected by Google in this manner.

If you do not want Google to collect, process or use data about you by means of our internet site, you can deactivate JavaScript in your browser settings. However, in this case you cannot use the map display. Additional information about the purpose of and the extent of the data collection, as well as the further processing and use of the data by Google, your rights in this regard, and configuration options for protecting your privacy, please refer to Google’s data protection notices. These can be found online at .

10. Contacting VDMA via e-mail

Our site offers you the option to contact us via e-mail. In this case, your information is saved for the purpose of facilitating communication. There is no sharing with third parties. Data collected is not reconciled with the data that may be collected by other components of our site.

11. Data protection notice for online surveys of VDMA

The VDMA regularly conducts surveys. As part of this, protecting your personal data is important to us. Consequently, strict requirements regarding data protection and security are applied whenever personal data are handled. Your responses are treated with the strictest confidence. Your participation in surveys is voluntary. Following this, you will receive an overview of how we ensure this protection and what type of data are collected for what purpose.

Personal data for processing the survey:

As part of your participation in surveys, we process the following personal data:

1.         Details such as your name and professional/business contact details such as address, telephone number or e-mail address are collected and processed only if you provide us with this information voluntarily (e.g. during registration) and the use of your data is necessary to process the survey (e.g. to provide a personal link or to use the log-in screen).

2.         When you access the survey, log files that your browser transmits to us are recorded and saved by the server by default. These include e.g. the IP address, date, time, access method and status and the name of the file requested. These data are not evaluated by employees of the VDMA.

3.         Your personal data are not passed to third parties.

4.         Only selected employees of the VDMA, subject to a confidentiality agreement, have access to the saved data.

Personal data in the context of the survey: When you participate in VDMA surveys, additional data such as company data and general responses of the participants are collected. Personal participant data are collected only if they are given voluntarily and are necessary in the context of the survey. The VDMA saves and processes these data for the sole purpose of producing the survey results. The survey data collected are not passed to third parties and are published only in an aggregated and anonymous form.

Security: Surveys conducted via the VDMA website are transferred in encrypted format via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology in order to ensure the greatest possible protection against the data being viewed by unauthorised persons during transfer. The software used to conduct the surveys does not save any information to the hard drive of your computer. All data collected are saved in an access-protected state.

12. Hyperlinks to other websites

Our website has so-called hyperlinks to the websites of other companies. In these cases, you are connected directly to the website of the other companies. You will notice this from the change in the URL. We cannot assume any responsibility for how your data is handled on external websites, since we have no influence regarding how these companies comply with data protection regulations. Please check the websites of such companies directly to learn how your data is handled by them.

13. Links to social media networks

These “Share Buttons” are integrated in deactivated form, so that no direct contact with the servers of the respective social media network is established. At no time is data transmitted from our website to the respective operator of the social media network without action by the user. A new window where you must log in to the selected social media network does not open until you click the “Share Button”. Only then can the selected page be recommended or shared. When you click this button, your browser establishes a direct connection to the servers of the associated company and transmits data about your visit to them. Even if you are not a member of the social media network, there is the possibility that in this way data such as your IP address will be sent to the company and possibly saved there.

We will continue to optimise this protection in the course of technical progress.
